Juneteenth is a day of celebration and reflection, but it is also a call to action

Posted On June 20, 2024

As we commemorate Juneteenth, I find myself reflecting on the profound significance of this day and the ongoing journey towards true freedom and equality. Juneteenth marks the emancipation of the last enslaved African Americans in 1865, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation. It is a day of celebration, reflection, and recommitment to the cause of justice. As the CEO of Camber Outdoors, a leader in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion within the outdoor industry, I see Juneteenth as an essential moment to reaffirm our commitment to creating inclusive and equitable workplaces.

The legacy of Juneteenth is not just a historical milestone; it is a powerful reminder of the resilience, strength, and determination of Black Americans. It calls us to honor the past by actively working towards a more just and inclusive future. In the context of our workplaces, this means dismantling systemic barriers, fostering diverse leadership, and creating environments where everyone, regardless of their background, can thrive.

Juneteenth serves as a powerful catalyst for inclusive workplace initiatives. It reminds us that the fight for freedom and equality is ongoing and that we all have a role to play in creating a more just society.

At Camber Outdoors, our mission is to advance diversity, equity and inclusion in the outdoor industry. We understand that achieving this mission requires a deep commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion principles. We are dedicated to creating a diverse and inclusive outdoor industry where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

This Juneteenth, we reaffirm our commitment to this mission. We pledge to continue our efforts to promote equitable systems, inclusive leadership practices and diversity of talent within our organization and the broader outdoor industry. We will work tirelessly to dismantle barriers, create opportunities, and foster an inclusive culture where everyone can thrive.

Juneteenth is a day of celebration and reflection, but it is also a call to action. As we honor the legacy of those who fought for freedom and equality, let us commit to creating workplaces that reflect these values. By embracing diversity, equity, and inclusion, we can build stronger, more innovative, and more just organizations. Together, we can create a future where everyone has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

Let us celebrate Juneteenth not just as a historical milestone, but as a powerful reminder of the work that still lies ahead. Let us take this opportunity to reaffirm our commitment to inclusion, equity and diversity and to create workplaces where everyone can thrive.

With gratitude,

Tiffany
