Defying Attacks on DEI: Camber Outdoors Leads the Charge
Posted On April 23, 2024Dear Camber Community,
As we honor the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community this month, it’s essential to acknowledge the current landscape surrounding diversity, equity, and inclusion. We find ourselves amidst a tumultuous time, where the very principles we advocate for are under attack. Yet, amidst these challenges, Camber Outdoors stands firm in our commitment to advancing DEI in the outdoor industry.
The recent attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives have only strengthened our resolve to defy the status quo and champion inclusivity. At Camber, we believe that diversity is not just a checkbox, but a fundamental aspect of creating thriving, innovative, and equitable organizations. Our Camber Survey System serves as a testament to this belief, providing data-driven insights into the progress and challenges faced by our partner companies in their belonging efforts. Through the hard work and dedication of our partner companies, we have witnessed remarkable strides in creating cultures of inclusion. These companies recognize the value of diverse talent and equitable systems, not only as a moral imperative but as a strategic advantage in today’s rapidly evolving marketplace.
In the wake of external expressions of support for diversity, equity, and inclusion, such as Women’s Month and AAPI Heritage Month, it is imperative that we shift our focus inward. While external gestures are important, true progress begins within our organizations, through intentional processes, procedures, and initiatives aimed at advancing women, BIPOC communities, and other marginalized groups.
The data speaks volumes: companies that prioritize diversity, equity, and inclusion outperform their peers in profitability, innovation, and employee satisfaction. According to McKinsey & Company, gender-diverse companies are 15% more likely to outperform their peers, while ethnically diverse companies are 35% more likely to do the same. These statistics underscore the importance of inclusion work, not only as a moral imperative but as a business imperative that aligns with the changing demographics of our country.
As we look ahead to the next 5, 10, and 15 years, the demographics of our country are rapidly shifting. By 2050, the U.S. will become a majority-minority nation, with people of color comprising the majority of the population. In this changing landscape, organizations that embrace diversity and inclusion will be well-positioned to thrive, while those that resist will be left behind.
At Camber Outdoors, we remain steadfast in our commitment to advancing inclusion in the outdoor industry. Through our partnerships, programs, and advocacy efforts, we will continue to defy the attacks on diversity, equity, and inclusion and champion a future where everyone feels valued, respected, and included.
Together, we can create a more equitable and inclusive outdoor industry for all.
With gratitude,
Tiffany
