Well, okay, maybe it’s not so secret anymore. By now you’ve probably heard something about emotional intelligence (EQ or EI). And you may have heard some of the research about the impact of EQ on overall job performance, financial success, and quality of personal and professional relationships. Here’s a sample of that research…
· People with average IQs outperform those with the highest IQs 70% of the time--decades of research now point to EQ as the critical factor that sets star performers apart from the rest of the pack;
· Of 34 different work skills, EI was found to be the strongest predictor of performance, explaining 58% of success in all types of jobs;
· In top leadership positions, over 80% of the difference between top performers and average performers is due to emotional competence
· People with high EI make more money—an average of $29,000 more per year than people with a low EI…and this holds true for people in all industries, at all levels, in every region of the world.
The really good news about emotional intelligence is that it is changeable! Just like physical fitness, you can improve your EQ fitness with diligent attention and practice…all by yourself or with the help of a coach or trainer.
This month, we’ll take your understanding of EQ a step further. Master Coach Sherryl Christie will help us uncover some simple and specific tools that you can use right away to build your leadership prowess through emotional intelligence. She will walk us through what is EQ, why it matters, and how to improve it.
