REI’s Wilma Wallace to Board of Directors

REI General Counsel to Join Mission of Workplace Inclusion, Equity, and Diversity

Boulder, CO (October 29, 2020) – Camber Outdoors, a national nonprofit working to equip Corporate Partners with the strategy and tools to achieve workplace inclusion, equity, and diversity across the outdoor recreation economy, announced that Wilma Wallace, VP, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for REI, has joined their Board of Directors.

“I’m thrilled to be locking arms with an organization that shares my strong belief that drawing a diverse network of talent is an industry imperative as the U.S. population and our consumer bases also becomes increasingly diverse,” says Wallace. “I hope to bring my voice and perspective as an African-American woman with over 25 years of experience in the retail industry and championing progressive change  to address that imperative in service through Camber Outdoors.”

Wallace joins a Board of exceptional industry leaders alongside newly announced 2021 Co-Presidents Michelle Wardian, President at Outdoor Research and Reginald Miller, VP of Global Inclusion and Diversity at VF Corp.

More than 11,000 employee members are currently active with Camber Outdoors programming including the Workplace Anti-Racism Action Agenda LEARN + ACT + CHANGE framework launched earlier this year, the Camber Workplace and Employee Surveys built in partnership with Claremont Evaluation Center, the Diverse Talent Pipeline Employer Learning Sprint, the Ann Krcik Professional Mentoring Program, and the Building Blocks of DEI, a “block-by-block” learning journey to support high-performing, inclusive, equitable, and diverse workplaces.

About Wilma Wallace
Wilma Wallace is General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for REI, Inc., where she is able to share her love for the outdoors and passion for making it accessible “For All” every day. Prior to joining REI in 2017, Wilma was interim General Counsel for Enveritas, a sustainability startup working with small coffee-holder farmers in Africa, Latin America and Asia. However, the majority of Wilma’s career was spent with over 22 years at Gap Inc., where as a senior leader she oversaw legal, compliance, government affairs and public policy, and sustainability functions. While at Gap Inc., Wilma served as the executive sponsor for the Legal department’s award winning diversity and mentoring programs. She is a life-long learner and frequent speaker on the topics of women’s leadership, development and empowerment, and is passionate about promoting inclusion in the work environment.

She can often be found running the trails in the East Bay Hills in Oakland or her newest home, in the Seattle area…and is willing to try anything once…as long as it involves getting outside.
