Where to Find a Mentor in the Active-Outdoors Industries

Applications due by October 15, 2019 for The Ann Krcik Professional Mentoring Program!

When someone has achieved success in life — whether in business or sport– they usually say they’ve had good coaches or mentors along the way. Good mentors help you set goals that stretch you to move outside of your comfort zone. Achieving those goals helps you move forward and even fast-track career and personal growth.

“The learnings I took away from the [Ann Krcik Professional Mentoring] Program have had a tremendous impact on my career and personal growth,” said past participant and marketing director at Hydrapak, Morgan Makowski. “I’ve learned to own my outcomes and relationships by being more assertively clear about who I am and what I value. By being authentic, I’ve been able to have real conversations, create more outcomes, and move some pretty big boulders!”

When your mentor shares their personal experiences, both victories and defeats, it can inspire and motivate you. You get to learn from their successes and mistakes!

“Being a mentor provides me a reason to step back from my day-to-day and reflect on underlying experiences and dynamics. It’s given me a way to help someone else benefit from my experiences and inspires me to keep learning,” said mentor Linda Balfour, vice president of marketing at Superfeet. “I enjoy the camaraderie of mentorship and how being part of a formal mentoring relationship opens the door for honest conversation, humility and a partnership that we both benefit from.”

Since its inception in 2014, 150 women have participated as mentees in The Ann Krcik Professional Mentoring Program a cross-company, cross-industry mentoring initiative in the active-outdoor industries that facilitates one-on-one learning and leadership development opportunities.

In a typical year, 25-35% of these women received promotions within a year of completing the program. More than 33% are now at the director level and above. 2018 mentees came from companies such as Columbia, Smartwool, Marmot, Outside Magazine, Trek Bicycle, REI Co-Op and more.
